The Abstract Project is an exploration of light and shadow. Unlike the black and white photographs done in the Photo One class, the digital photography students must also consider color as a design element. In these images chosen during our last critique, you can see how important attention to the color is in creating a strong image. Whether it is the selective use of color or the bold presentation of color in the image. The photographs are in no particular order and as before the photographer's name precedes the photograph.

Digital Photo / Landscape
Below are recent images from our landscape project. There was a wide and varied approach to the idea of landscape photography. I have included those photographs that received good comments during our critique and also tried to showcase the work of students who have not had images up on the blog yet. As before the name of the photographer proceeds the photograph.

Digital Photo - Water Project
This selection of images is from our Water Project. The assignment was to create images that somehow used water as the theme. We had many different approaches to the subject. In some images, the water is only hinted at, in others it is all about the water. Below are some of the images that stood out during our critique. The name of the photographer is before their image.

Digital Photo / Portrait
These are images from our first project in digital photography. The three images below were ones that stood out during our first critique. The students chose these images as the ones that they found most interesting. The name of the photographer precedes each image.
Gianna Tondini
Quinn McDonough
The selection of images below are my choices of images to add as I looked back over this project later in the semester. These photographs still stuck in my mind weeks after we finished the assignment and to me that is the sign of a good image.

Looking Back as the New Term Begins
Below are images from Photo One (Darkroom), Fall 2010. These are some photographs that were favorites from that term and I thought would be a great way to get ready for this new school year. Also these three students will be returning to take Digital Photography this Fall.

Photo Two / Victoria Buseck
The final portfolio to post from Photo 2 is by Victoria Buseck. It is not one of grand scenes or big vistas. The images are those we pass everyday. Or in this case, that Victoria walks by everyday. These are photographs of a lonely vine against a retaining wall or the light filtering through the trees on the Collegiate campus. All rendered in contrasty black and white. These eight images are just part of Victoria's final portfolio.

Photo Two / Madalyn Crews
This wonderful group of people staring at you are a sample of Madalyn Crews' final Photography Two portfolio. Madalyn created several series during Photo 2, but decided to go with this series for her final display. I wish I could show you the arrangement of the images as they were displayed in the Upper School. The first six were hung over the last five and all the prints were 8 x 10 inches. It was great to see these photographs staring at people as they walked by in the lobby.

Photo Two / William Russell
This group of images are from William Russell's Photography 2 Portfolio that was recently on display in the Upper School Lobby. William captured a great sense of light and shadow in this series of photographs. Which to my mind is what photography is all about. He not only gives us intense light and shadow, but an interesting sense of place with all the textures that abound in his photographs.
